5. Sophisticated ABT technology

Be it a petrol or a diesel engine:  the ABT Power-Software upgrade is what makes the difference. Electronic control units are modern cars’ nerve centres. For the ABT Power “New Generation“ upgrade, for example, an ABT engine control unit is used that was intricately developed on the basis of car manufacturers’ standards.

The ABT control unit is tuned with the engine by means of four analogue channels or two digital (SENT) and two analogue channels to correct sensor values such as pressure and temperature and the positions of actuators such as actuating motors as well as the active control of the same.

The further development and application of the ABT engine control is constantly pushed on manufacturer level in order to integrate the latest technology trends of the automotive industry such as digital sensors, for example. So raising the maximum speed is an integral part of the ABT engine control.

Contrary to most competitors, the application of the ABT engine control not only takes place in a two-dimensional way via a characteristic curve, but in a three-dimensional way via a so-called characteristic diagram which is spanned via engine load and rotational speed. Two-dimensional characteristic curves, however, are either spanned via engine load or rotational speed.

The ABT performance increase is therefore active only under full load or in ranges that are close to full load, depending on load and rotational speed. The loads of the engine and its components are thus lower than with many competing solutions where the turbocharger in the lower partial-load range permanently works at its surge limit thus wears out quicker.

Through the individual, three-dimensional application of the parameters ABT is able to offer a constant maximum power under full throttle. This is different to a lot of solutions from market competitors where the power falls back to standard after driving full-speed for a lenghty period of time.
