When it comes to engine technology, aerodynamics, sports wheels, exhaust systems, suspension or brakes: Constant improvement, setting new goals, winning – this is our motivation, both on the racetrack and in the development of intelligent tuning components for street use. That is our philosophy, not just empty theory, but the result of decades in the hard school of international motorsport. This unique competence and experience, in addition to intensive cooperation with the technological leaders Audi and VW, will keep us moving in the future as well.


1896
Johann Abt founds a blacksmith's shop in Kempten.


1950s
Founder's grandson Johann Abt completes his first race on the grass circuit in Kempten. More than 300 motorsport victories follow.


1960s
ABT Tuning is founded. Johann Abt achieves top results with the Abarth in numerous hill climbs.


1970s
VW launches production of the Golf. And from now on, ABT is one of the leading automobile tuners. Double triumph for the ABT team in the touring car series "Trophée l'Avenir".


1980s
Chip tuning is born, and is perfected by the specialists at ABT. Initial successes in the Formula racing series.


1990s
Christian and Hans-Jürgen, who now control the fate of the company, establish ABT Sportsline GmbH in 1991. Christian develops into a winning driver; he wins the Formula Junior title in 1991, becomes the Formula 3 champion (Class B) in 1992 and finally wins the STW Championship in 1999.


Since 2000
The ABT Sportsline team wins the most important touring car-racing series with the DTM in 2002, 2004, 2007, 2008 and 2009. In 2009 Christian Abt won the title in the ADAC GT Masters racing the R8 LMS. His nephew Daniel secured the third title for the team from Bavaria by winning the ADAC Formula Masters. ABT Sportsline GmbH, nearly 200 employees in almost 70 countries on every continent around the world, remains to this day the world's largest tuner for Audi, VW, Seat and Škoda automobiles.


Starting aid for the next generation.
ABT is not only established as a successful team in the world's most renowned touring car series, but also supports young talent: For the past decade, Volkswagen has put the experts of the ABT Sportsline team in charge of the junior racing series ADAC VW Polo Cup. Also 2010 ABT Sportsline maintains the cars of the ADAC VW Scirocco Cup, the follow-up of the Polo Cup. In the meantime Daniel Abt is taking the next step of his racing career by starting in the ATS Formel-3-Cup. His uncle Christian changes position. Having won the title in the ADAC GT Masters behind the steering wheel last year, he wants to win it as team boss at the pit wall in 2010. This does however not mean a farewell from racing at all. Christian Abt is going to race the R8 LMS at the 24h of the Nürburgring, planning to win a title he has been aiming to win for so long: Winning the 24h of the Nürburgring.
