2,400 SQUARE METRES OF PURE RACING: THE ABT MOTORSPORT CENTRE

It’s the home of ABT Sportsline in motorsport: since 2014 the team has had an ultra-modern motorsport centre near its headquarters in Kempten. In an area of 2,400 square metres some 50 employees prepare the Audi RS 5 DTM cars for the DTM races and drive the commitment in the FIA Formula E Championship.

PERFECT PREREQUISITES

“Motorsport is our great passion and has had enormous value in our company for decades,” says Managing Director Hans-Jürgen Abt. “With this unique complex of buildings we’ve created perfect prerequisites for the challenges we tackle day in day out. Our team feels comfortable, has optimum working conditions and plenty of room for new ideas.”

THE CENTRUM BOASTS AN IMPRESSIVE EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR

Bevelled, matt-black sheet steel and red, high-gloss aluminium dominates the exterior cladding of the ‘hallowed halls’. “The development of the building was largely centred on the notion of a ‘factory’,” says Marco Hippmann from the architectural firm Hippmann Hardegger in Stuttgart. As the project leader in Kempten Harald Seyband was responsible for the short construction period of only ten months. “The aim was to create a highly functional building with an exterior illustrating the fact that ABT is a high-tech company. This is emphasised by the red-and-black cladding that has been reduced to the essentials.”

PARADISE OF MOTORSPORT

Inside, the employees find a little motorsport paradise: ample working areas, modern offices, in-house carbon and gearbox workshops, a wash hall, modern equipment, a spacious warehouse, plus a gym. The truck hall annex can accommodate five trailers which can be loaded and unloaded irrespective of weather conditions. Even the daily DTM pit stop practice sessions can be performed in the hall.
